Annabelle
YEAR 1 STUDENT WITH THE WORLD AT HER FEET
A curious girl with a zest for learning, Annabelle is in Year 1 at Somerville House and is at the beginning of her educational journey. For her, a school day is one of discovery, play, socialisation, learning and being part of a vibrant, happy community. Girls in Junior School at Somerville House love coming to school – for the place is a buzz of exciting programs, first-class facilities and opportunities galore.
With Christian values at its core, our Junior School curriculum focusses on critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication, with teachers who are passionate about supporting student growth across all areas. We believe learning is a partnership between students, parents and the School, and endeavour to create effective communication channels between home and school.
Research shows that girls have better access to leadership opportunities, achieve greater academic success, and are more confident and assertive in single-sex environments. They are also more likely to study in the ‘gender atypical’ areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) at school and university – and are more likely to pursue a career in these non-traditional areas.
A single-sex school provides the opportunity for all students to be on a level playing field and be encouraged to pursue anything that interests them.

Spiritual & Wellbeing
CHRISTIAN FAITH IS AT THE CORE OF SOMERVILLE HOUSE AND ONE OF THE REASONS SOMERVILLE HAS A REPUTATION FOR SUCH SERVICE-MINDED ALUMNI. SINCE THE SCHOOL’S INCEPTION, IT HAS SERVED AS A MAINSTAY OF THE SCHOOL’S SPIRITUAL AND CULTURAL ETHOS.
As a Christian school operating under the governance of the Presbyterian and Uniting Churches, the hallmarks of our Christian faith are evident through:
CHAPEL SERVICES
Opportunities are provided for formal worship through school assemblies, year level Chapel services, annual family worship services and weekly services for our boarders.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
This is a core subject at Somerville House, with all students having one to two lessons a week (depending on year level).
POSITIVE WELLBEING FRAMEWORK
This framework blends academic learning with character and wellbeing, preparing students with skills for a life of meaning and optimism. At its foundation is a commitment to Christian values, beliefs and teachings.
CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
SUPAClub in the Junior School and Somercircle in the Senior School meet for faith exploration, discussion, and other activities during lunchtimes. Social functions, camps, community service activities and leadership training also occur outside school hours.
